Bodo department of Bongaigaon College:
In the College, Bodo subject was introduced in 1982 at intermediate level and in 1988 it was introduced at undergraduate level. Elective Bodo was introduced in 1999 at undergraduate level and Advance Bodo was introduced in 2007 at intermadiate level. In the department, Major Course was started in 2007. However, since 2019 CBCS has been introduced at undergraduate level. The department offers both Honourse Course and Regular Course at undergraduate level.
Mr. Mahesh Islary was the first teacher of the department. The department passed through tough phases in the begining due to sortage of sanctioned teachers. However, the department has been growing up slowly. Now there are five sanctioned posts in the department. At present four faculties are serving in the department. They are namely Dr. Rupnath Owary, Mr. Banduram Brahma, Mr. Hari Basumatary and Mrs. Manery Basumatary. The department publishes ‘Bodo Bulletin’and ‘Birgwshree’ megazine.
