HINDI DEPARTMENT

1.A brief History of Hindi Department 

         Bongaigaon College was established on 8^th July, 1964. It had a humble beginning with the opening of Pre-University (Arts) classes under Gauhati University with 150 students including Hindi as an MIL subject on the demand of local public. Late R.N. Kumar was the founder teacher in Hindi department who has been imparting Hindi education since 1964 to the day of his retirement in 1991. Dr. Dharmadeo Tiwari, the retired HOD of the Hindi Department of Gauhati University has started his teaching life as a lecturer in the Department of Hindi in Bongaigaon Degree College which was started in 1966, affiliated in the year 1971 by DPI, Guwahati, Assam. Sri Gopeswar Talukder, retired HOD, Hindi Department, was appointed as a lecturer in Hindi and he has been serving in the said department till his superannuation. 

           Degree Commerce classes started in the year 1978. Most of the students having Hindi speaking in Commerce faculty were placing demand for Hindi as an MIL subject and it was introduced with the holy service of Sri Biren  Patgiri, retired HOD, Hindi  Department. The Major Course in Hindi in Degree Classes was introduced in 1993. A number of good student having Major in Hindi has been securing good position in the B.A. final examination every year. At present three permanent teachers, Dr. Nur Jammal (HOD), Sri Karuna Patgiri (Asstt. Professor), Dr. Bind Kumar Chauhan (Asstt.Professor), four contractual teachers have been imparting valuable education in this department. Every year 10 to 15 students are securing 1^st class. Miss Jharna Brahma, Sri Dipak Gupta and Abhishek Kumar, Marfina Khatoon, Sapana Kumari, Shivangi Taiwala are the brilliant students who stood 1^st class 1^st and other position in B.A. (Hindi, Major) and M.A.. Miss Jharna Brahma and Deepak Gupta  were awarded the Paresh Chandra Dev Sharma Prize and felicitation. 

  Following several times public demands and petitions submitted by the local guardians and students to the HOD of Hindi Department, to the Principal and Governing Body of the College further process was developed and lastly on the good inspection report by Honourable HOD, Hindi department and Professor Dr. Achyut Sharma, the M.A. Class having 20 seats was permitted by the Secretary, Higher Education, Gauhati University, Guwahati in 2017. It is a matter of pleasant that every year the Ist Class Ist position is found in our College named Sapana Kumari, Marfina Khatoon in M.A. Final Exam.  

An annual Journal titled ‘Jagriti’ also has been publishing contributing the valuable writings of students in Hindi at the time of Hindi Divas in 14^th September every year.
