Department of Journalism & Mass Communication 

About the Department:

The department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) was established in the year 2009 as Bachelor of Mass Communication (BMC) vide letter No GU/AFF/2009, dated. The department has been offering full-time B.A. degree in Mass Communication (BMC) from the inception of the department. However, with the introduction of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) of Gauhati University, the department has been offering Regular Course (RC), Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) from the academic year 2019-20. 
The founder Coordinator of the department was Mr. H.C. Chakravarty, former Principal, i/c of the college. The department has at present two faculty members working as Assistant Professors (Contractual). Besides, the department also invites various prominent persons from the field of Journalism, Public Relations, Film Studies, Development Communication who impart practical knowledge to the students.
The department has a well quipped digital classroom which helps in knowledge diffusion and students’ access to instructional activities. Besides, the department has its own set of cameras and computer lab which allows students to explore the subject of Mass Communication. Besides, the department arranges internship opportunities to the students in the leading media organizations of the State to get a practical exposure of the subject. Further, the department subscribes many research journals and newspapers apart from producing its own journal called “Chatra Barta”
