Department of Assamese

Assamese department of Bongaigaon College was incepted on 8^th July, 1968. Initially Assamese was introduced as a subject in Higher Secondary (Arts) and later it was introduced as a general subject in Three Year Degree Course in both Arts and Commerce Stream. Subsequently, Major in Assamese was introduced in 1978 in UG level. In the session 1989-90 the Assamese Major subject got permanent affiliation by Gauhati University and later Advance Assamese was also introduced as a subject in HS section in 1985 and the department has been continuing both Major and general courses till date. The department has been doing research activities and organizes seminar etc. time to time in National as well as state level. For example, in 2010, a national level seminar was organized by the Assamese department on “Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaruah and Padmanath Gohain Baruah – a comparative study of literay contribution”.The department has been continuously publishing its departmental Journal”Prabandha Karani” and Wall Magazine “Rengoni”since 2004. The result of students of the department are satisfactory during the last decades.

The Assamese department takes into consideration the Academic Calendar and works out its Academic Plan which includes evaluation of students by unit test and other methods for assessment. Thus, it helps the teachers to understand the learning level of students and thereby take necessary action for further improvement.

Individual faculty member of the department do take decision and implement individual methods to make teaching more lively and viable. Predominantly teaching goes by lecture method, Moreover, students centered seminars, group discussion and tutorial classes are also conducted by the department for better learning of students.
